Sushi Village

This painting, Sushi Village, is a scene from our local Sushi Restaurant. We love sitting at the counter for a bird eye view of the people who make it all happen on a busy night. My husband hates when I take pictures of people in public, but this one paid off. Oil on panel 8x10.

Spring Street, Block Island

This is a painting of Block Island one of my favorite places. We rented a house off Spring Street with great views of the ocean.

Beef It's What for Dinner

This week DPW Challenge was "The Raw Meat Challenge." Since I'm quite the carnivore, it didn't take me long to slap a hunk of beef on a plate and start painting. This beef shoulder later became the star of "mushroom beef barley soup with swiss chard." Yum.  I was surprised to find that there is such a subject category for painting as raw meat. Google it.

Wellfleet Oysters

The DPW challenge of the week was "Paint it before you eat it."  The theme was in honor of Valentine's Day.  So I thought nothing says love like Wellfleet Oysters.  Wellfleet, Massachusetts has the most amazing oysters I have ever tasted. We tried them on Cape Cod and have since had them shipped to NJ for special occasions.  The Wellfleet OysterFest is October 13-14, 2012.

Rainy December Morning

This painting was done for the DPW December Challenge.  Leaving my house before sunrise to walk my dog on a rainy December morning, I get a glimpse of our neighbor's children in their breakfast room.  The warmth of this magical scene inspired this painting.  Does this make me a stalker?

Coq au vin

The Color Trend for 2012 'Tangerine Tango" was a Daily Paintworks Challenge.  This is a painting of one of my chickens, Coq au vin.  She is low in the pecking order and appreciates the fame.  This is an 8X10 oil.   It's difficult to get a good photo of chickens, they are constantly moving.  I found a high shutter speed works.

IIl Saint Louis

This painting was from Lee Brown's A Day Not Wasted October 2011 Challenge. The subject is from a photograph of an accordion player on Iil Saint Louis in Paris, France. This picture interested me because of my love for all things French and my trip to Paris with my daughter a few years ago. We spent many lovely afternoons sipping wine while listening to musicians on Iil Saint Louis.

Mia

This is a painting of a sweet, little girl named Mia.  She speaks Italian and rides a horse named Linguine.  Painting is an 8X10 oil on panel.  A warming scene on a cold February afternoon.

White on White Challenge

This week's Daily Paintworks Challenge by Ann Feldman was White on White. Sounds simple, but finding the colors and values was quite a challenge, but a great learning experience. A snowy Saturday made it possible for me to complete the painting before the next challenge is posted.

First Post

I am very excited to finally have my own blog (thank you, Kaitlin) to share my creative escapes.

My first post is going to be about painting.  This week's Daily Paint Works Challenge's theme was "wheels" by Carol Carmichael.  I have been waiting for the opportunity to paint one of my favorite scenes from a recent vacation to Positano, Italy.  The town was picturesque with a painting idea around every corner.
