Vacation

Left for vacation to stay in a tiny cottage by the sea to catch some beautiful summer sunsets from our deck, hike, fish,  clam, exercise, paint and put my feet in the sand.  Very excited that our cottage has internet this year.  My plan is to post some pictures every day to capture my stay on the Block this year.

Alpaca Socks

Winter is not my favorite season, so every year I need something to get me through the cold months.  Last year it was my electric blanket, and this year my favorite comfort is my warm and cozy Alpaca socks purchased from North Light Fibers on Block Island.  The mill is in the middle of Abrams Farm which among other animals is the home to eight beautiful alpacas.  We visit the farm often when on the island, and I’ve photographed several of these adorable animals.  For Christmas I purchased alpaca socks for my family and I like to think they came from this sheared alpaca.  This 5x7 oil painting on Gessobord is available in my Esty Shop.

View from Amy Dodge Lane, BI

This plein aire 5X7 oil on Art Board panel was painted a few years ago.   I had framed it and never photographed it until today.  It was painted from the deck of our vacation rental on Block Island.  How could you ever become tired of this view?

Been very busy and excited with new projects including learning Photoshop CS6 and a new oil painting art class.  Love the challenge of learning new things.

Narragansett Inn's Outbuildings

Narragansett Inn Outbuildings

This painting is from a photograph I took on Block Island, RI this summer.  The Narragansett Inn sits on the shores of the Great Salt Pond with spectacular views of the marina.  Behind the Inn are several simple outbuildings that caught my eye on the way to the The Oar Restaurant for lunch. I experimented with a magenta underpainting, which I think was successful.  Oil on 5X7 Gessobord.

An Afternoon Chat on Block Island

This was painted for this week's Daily Paintworks Challenge by Abbey Ryan, "The Yellow Challenge."  I took this picture last summer on Block Island, RI of three women chatting up a storm on the beach.  I surmised that they have been vacationing here for years and met on the beach and are catching up.

Spring Street, Block Island

This is a painting of Block Island one of my favorite places. We rented a house off Spring Street with great views of the ocean.
