Friday Finds- Milkweed

Found this very important Milkweed plant on one of my recent walks.  Famed as a plant that attracts butterflies, this wildflower is a must-have for the butterfly garden.  It is the host for monarch butterfly caterpillars.  Monarch butterflies deposit their eggs on milkweed plants; once the caterpillars emerge, they eat the leaves.

Milkweed seeds are spread by the wind, which catches the fluffy part and carries the seed for long distances.

  1. Oh, I love milkweed this time of year! I love it when the seed heads split open to reveal their silky insides. This is a wonderful host and the contrast and detail is fantastic.

  7. Gorgeous photo - I live milkweed. It's very common around here, most consider it a weed, but I allow a lot of it to stay in my flower garden. It's great for wildlife, and looks beautiful at every stage. It can be aggressive in the garden, however, so I do weed some of it out. Thanks for sharing on Clever Chicks Hop.
